Panchayat : An Amazon Web Series Review

Panchayat is directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, Written by Chandan Kumar and Produced by TVF. This series contains eight episodes each length around 30 minutes, with loads of fun and drama in a village.

Panchayat is a story about Abishek Tripathi played by Jitendra Kumar, who happens to apply for panchayat secretary job as back up before completing his bachelors of technology. Unfortunately, this job happens to be the only job left after completing his course. So he joined in the job thinking that this job is better than sitting idle at home.

So Abishek joined as panchayat secretary. On the first-day panchayat sarpanch husband, Brij Bhushan Dubey (Raghuvir Yadav) loses the key to the office. The lock is a family heirloom of the sarpanch Manju Devi (Neena Gupta). As that panchayat is reserved for ladies Brij Bhushan Dubey made his wife participate in the election and runs panchayat as a proxy.

The entire first episode is how sarpanch, vice sarpanch Prahalad Pandey (Faisal Malik) and Abishek's assistant Vikas (Chandan Roy) managed to open the office without breaking the lock. The entire thirty Mins make you laugh at Abishek difficulties which shows the reality in rural India. Wherever Abishek goes the villagers ask who are you? and the irritated Abiskeh says that he is a new secretary without asking.

Government sanctions 13 solar lights to the village, Abhishek arranges meeting the ward members. Instead of elected 12 women members, all their husbands attend the meeting and unanimously decide solar lights to install in front of their houses. All husband proxy committee decided to install the remaining one solar light at a haunted tree at the corner of the village.

As there are more power cuts Abishek wants the solar light to be installed at the panchayat office. So he can prepare for the CAT exam. So he decided to bust the haunted tree mystery. So he follows the story where it started 14 years ago. Finally catches the science teacher that he was high on weed when he saw the tree was floated a 3 meter high and came towards him.

In one episode Abishek feels lonely so had two bottles of beer and slept without locking the doors of the office. When he woke up in the early morning he found that monitor is missing, and informs sarpanch. After filling a complaint in the police station SI cames to the panchayat and starts investigating. I've never seen a funny investigation in any movie.

SI implies to sarpanch that Abishek sold the monitor for the money. Abishek says that he is bored, all the village will be sleeping by 7 pm and I have no one here to share my feeling. If you are involved in this series well you can see that the villagers in India care about their officers as their own.

The next morning the monitor is returned with a note. If you saw the series share about the note in below comments.

As Abhishek scored fewer marks in CAT, he is unable to get a seat in Indian Institute Of Management. He should stay in the village for another year.

In the whole, the eight-episode series is well directed with a small simple storyline per episode, well-executed, and well performed. Entire series shows how Abishek managed to stay, adjusted and handled each every issue smoothly in the village.

Bottle gourd the vegetable plays an important in this series, every time Brij Bhushan Yadav wants a small favour he offers it as a bribe to officers. Series ends with his friends saying he should fall in love with the village. The female lead role is not shown until the end of the series.
