Bard of blood is directed by Ribhu Dasgupta is know for his previous work, Micheal and Te3n. The main actors in this series are Emraan Hashmi, Sobitha Dulipala, Vineet Kumar Singh, Rajit Kapoor, Rajit Kapoor, Danish Husain, Jaideep Ahlawat. This season contains seven episodes with a total running time of 331 minutes.
The first episode of the season starts with a bomb blast where Emraan Hashmi loses his best friend. Four Indian spies in Balochistan discovered a huge scandal against India. So they try to upload a data file containing the scandal from a thumb drive in an internet cafe. Taliban's disguised as Pakistan police raided the internet cafe and capture four Indian spies. The uploading is paused as one of the Taliban pulled out the thumb drive from pc. These four Indian spies are taken to their leader Mullah Khalid (Danish Husain), he ordered to behead the spies.
The pictures of capturing spies have been seen by Tanvir Shehzad (Jaideep Ahlawat) who is an ISA spy work for the Taliban. He rushes to the site to stop killing of the captured Indian Spies. Tanvir Shehzad convinces Mullah Khalid that he has a good plan against India that requires Indian spies. Mullah Khalid, Taliban leader agrees with him and postpone beheading for a week.
Meanwhile, In India, Indian Intelligence Wing came to know that its four spies have been captured by the Taliban from a video posted on the darknet traces back to Quetta a city in Pakistan. Sadik Sheik (Rajit Kapoor) briefs his chief Arun Joshi (Shishir Sharma) that these four spies are in Balochistan on his orders investigating about Taliban and ISA. Arun Joshi advice Sadik Sheik to disown them as IIW agents and create a fake profile as engineers from Kabul.
Sadik came to know that their four agents got a piece of big news for IIW through Isha (Sobitha Dulipala) who is an analyst. But IIW doesn't know what it is. Sadik tries to recruit an old spy who is disowned dishonourably due to a mistake done by him five years earlier. That is none other than Kabir Anand(Emraan Hashmi). Kabir currently working as an English teacher in a school. Isha follows him, kidnaps and transports Kabir to Sadiks house.
Sadik explains hostage situation and tries to recruit him. But Kabir disagrees to join with him and leaves the house. A Taliban surrenders the confiscated thumb drive to Tanvir Shehzad who is a Pakistan spy. He connects Pendrive to the laptop, the uploading of data file resumes. Sadik Sheik receives the data and starts decrypting it. He then quickly calls Kabir that he received a big data file from the four captured agents, something huge is being planned against India and his answers to his friend's death are in Balochistan.
Kabir Anand decides to go back to Sadik's house. By the time he gets there someone killed Sadik and empties the computer hard drive. Police on a disturbance complaint from neighbours came to the Sadik's house and find Kabir Anand in the house doing a crossword puzzle. The situation is informed to the director of the IIW and tries to investigate Kabir.
Kabir denies any wrongdoing to Sadik Sheik, IIW agents left him on a highway and tells him about the funeral timings and date. He attends the funeral, he saw someone taking pictures of the funeral and follows him but he misses. Kabir asks Isha to meet in a nearby hotel and tells her about the crossword puzzle that Sadik is solving before he was shot to death. In that puzzle, Sadik was thinking about a three-man rescue operation to save the four Indian agents. The agent's code name is written in the puzzle. The First agent is Kabir, The Second agent is Isha and the Third is a mystery one. So these three agents go rouge to save the captured agents.
From now on the mission is to save the four captured agents by recruiting the third one from Afganisthan who is undercover for seven years and to know about the data file that is cleaned on the Sadik's personal laptop. The remaining plot is how they saved themselves from Pakistan government, Taliban's and ISA using each and every clue that can be obtained by three rogue agents whose mission is not sanctioned by their superiors. IIW not willing to help these rogue agents and create further problems to abort this rogue mission. How Kabir and his team try to get these captured agents back to India with little suspense and small subplots make you watch the whole season in a single go.
The Advantages of the series is the emotion carried by the Emraan Hashmi as a lover, as a best friend, as a patriot is excellent. There are a few scenes which seem real, where the true efforts of a spy go unnoticed to the nation. The cruelty of the Taliban's to reach their ulterior motive is shown well enough to understand the original situation in Taliban ruled areas. The role of Kriti Kulhari in Balochistan freedom fighter has weighed equal to the Emraan Hashmi. The things she had to do to keep her younger brother safe as a sister is truly tremendous. The third Spy Vineet Kumar Singh has made his role a perfect justice. I can't imagine anyone else for this role.
The main drawback of this season is the gun shooting scenes. There are almost six to eight shooting scenes in the seven episodes. You can see that everyone is just acting with Ak-47 recoiling in the burst mode. The gun shooting scenes need a bit more design with some action. The main reason these three agents to go rouge is to find the big scandal against India and to save captured Indian agents.
Even though their priority is to save agents the next good thing is to find the data. These Rouge agents only bother about the saving agents, not on the data file. After saving the captured agents no rouge agent is asked about what is in the file you sent to Sadik. The plot mostly turns around emotion and flashback of the hero Kabir Anand. There are too much emotion and less spy work in this series. They just go blindly according to the intel and that gets boring at one point of the time. But the series is straight forward with a bit of less drag comparing to similar genre Family Man.
At last, they find the man who is clicking the pictures at the funeral. He introduces as the killer of Sadik Sheik and someone shoots him. Kabir chases him and finds that his dead friend shot the man. This suspense leads to another season.
