You Need To Pay Extra To Talk To Non-Jio Users

You Need To Pay Extra To Talk To Non-Jio Users

Jio users, we have some news for you. And this is an important one  Reliance Jio today announced that it will start charging users 6 paise per minute for calls made to other telecom networks. As you may soon be needing more than your standard Rs. 399 recharge to avail all of the company’s services.

It means if you call someone using with an Airtel or Vodafone SIM then you would be charged at a rate of 6 paise per minute. The new tariff won’t apply to Jio to Jio calls, all incoming calls, and Jio to landline calls. It also won’t be affecting your VoIP calls, i.e. WhatsApp or FaceTime calls.

Why is Jio Charging You Now?

Jio needs to pay money to Vodafone if you’re calling your friend who has a Vodafone number – i.e for an outgoing call to the other telecom operators. This charge is called Interconnect Usage Charge (or IUC) and had been subsidized by Jio for its valuable customers.

Reliance Jio, in an official announcement, says that it had subsidized the IUC charge for users and has been paying it themselves which is more than 13,000 crores over the past two years but Jio is now ending this practice because of TRAI.

Back in 2017, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India decided to eliminate IUC charges, with effect from January 2020. Jio placed faith in the regulatory body and didn’t levy IUC charger on its customers to date. However, TRAI is looking to extend the termination, thus, Jio is looking to now recover some charges to pay out its competitors until IUC is permanently terminated in the coming months.

In its official blog post, the company says, “Jio again assures its 35 crore customers that the 6 paise per minute charge on outgoing off-net mobile calls shall continue only till the time TRAI abolishes IUC, in line with its present regulation.” TRAI has already fixed IUC charges at 6 paise a minute, so that’s exactly what the company is going to charge you going forward.

New Calling Plans Detailed

Jio is now going to charge users to offset the losses. The list of top-up plans, showing how many IUC minutes and data you’ll receive on recharging your Jio number –

Now, if you recharge your Jio number after 10th October, you will have to complete an additional top-up to add IUC calling minutes to your Jio account.

It’s only when a Reliance Jio user completes this recharge will they able to make outgoing calls to other telecom operators other than Jio. You can save yourself from the top-up voucher in two ways – either call the user on their Jio number or use WhatsApp to call them.

How to get started on Threads, Instagram’s DM app

Instagram released Threads this week, a messaging app strictly for communicating with those on your Close Friends list. It’s a boon for those who use Instagram as their primary social media platform.

So how to get started on Threads? Here’s a quick guide.
Download from here

After Download

After successfully Downloaded then open the app, the first thing you’re gonna be asked is which account you which to use. Since it’s not uncommon for users to have more than one account, take this opportunity to pick which one you want to use to communicate.

If you don’t have a Close Friends list on your Instagram account already, the next screen is a list of your contacts from which you can select your nearest and dearest. You’ll also have this chance to turn on notifications.

This is also where you’ll set up “Auto Status.” This setting will reportedly update your status with what it presumes you’re doing based on “location, movement, battery level, and network connection even when you’re not using the app.”

I declined to turn that on, as it struck me as a little unsettling because of threads app going to update its status based on location, battery level and type of network connection.

Camera work

Threads allow you to customize your camera with shortcuts. You can select up to eight of your contacts, and their pictures will be on the camera screen. Tapping their icons will allow you to send pictures directly their inboxes.

The app is camera-first, kind of like Snapchat (because what’s one more thing Instagram steals from Snapchat). When you open the app, you’ll be taken straight to the camera. Once you take pictures, you can edit and filter them the same as you can in classic Instagram.

To access your inbox, tap the Home icon at the top of the screen. You can call your friends from each inbox by using the camera button. And that’s pretty much all there is to it.
Now you’re all set up with Threads. Anything else you need us to know? Let us know in the comments section.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Huawei revealed its major H2 flagships, the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro . As expected, they arrived without Google services.

This marks a turning point for the company, and perhaps Android itself, as the second-biggest smartphone maker in the world launches phones without Apple or Google app store access. Here’s what we saw at yesterday’s event.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Before talking about what the Mate 30 Pro is missing, let’s take a look at the hardware it delivers:

Display: 6.53-inch curved OLED (with notch), 2,400 x 1,176 resolution
Chip: Kirin 990
RAM: 8GB
ROM: 128GB / 256GB
Rear cameras: 40MP f/1.6, 40MP f/1.8 ultra-wide, 8MP f/2.4 3x telephoto, 3D depth sensor
Front camera: 32MP, 3D depth sensor
Battery: 4,500mAh
OS: Android 10 (and EMUI 10)

  • These characteristics put the Mate 30 Pro squarely at the most premium end of the smartphone spectrum.
  • Looks-wise, you can’t miss it: it has a large, boxy body with a notch at the top and an unmissable circular camera cutout on the rear.
  • Speaking of cameras, the four rear sensors — including two huge 40MP sensors — will surely help put this among the best smartphones for camera quality (expect some critics to crown it the best).
  • It can also shoot ultra-slow motion at a ridiculous 7680fps at 720p.
  • But it lacks a headphone port. Boo.
  • Huawei showed off a Mate 30 Pro 5G model too, as well as a variant with a vegan leather rear.
  • The Mate 30 Pro will start at 1,099 Euros, the Mate 30 Pro 5G starts at 1,199 Euros, but Huawei didn’t talk release date or markets.
  • Here’s a hands-on video with the device from Android Authority (YouTube).
  • From a hardware standpoint, it looks like a beast. There’s just one problem…

The app situation

  • The Huawei Mate 30 series doesn’t support apps like YouTube, Maps, and Gmail, and it can’t run the Google Play Store.
  • This is a result of the ongoing trade ban the U.S. has imposed on Huawei. It isn’t of Huawei’s own volition.
  • Mate 30 owners will have to rely on Huawei’s marketplace called AppGallery if they want to download apps instead.
  • Little is known about this yet, but it won’t house anywhere near as many apps like Google Play, though WhatsApp and Instagram have been confirmed for it (BBC).
  • Huawei said there may be a way to sideload Google apps onto the phones in the future, but details are murky.
  • In a group interview, Huawei’s Richard Yu said Google services could potentially be rolled out to the Mate 30 “over one night,” should the trade ban be lifted.

What about the standard Mate 30?

  • The regular Mate 30 model is a lower-spec’d, less expensive version of the Pro model.
  • Oddly, it’s slightly bigger than the Mate 30 Pro overall, but also with slightly smaller battery capacity at 4,200mAh and a smaller notch.
  • Its camera setup isn’t as high performance, with lower resolution sensors on the front (24MP vs 32MP) and back (40MP + 16MP + 8MP vs 40MP + 40MP + 8MP), and no 3D face unlock.
  • But it does have a headphone port.
  • Otherwise, it’s very similar to the Pro model, with essentially the same resolution display, same chipset, and up to 8GB RAM. The Huawei Mate 30 starts at 799 Euros.
  • Will anybody buy these phones?
  • Huawei is in an unfortunate situation, being forced to launch a new phone range with what Western consumers will see as a crippling caveat.
  • The big question is whether the Mate 30 series does enough to justify the lack of Google Play and Google Services access. For me, that would be a no.
  • Huawei can’t spring to life an app store like Google Play, and the Google Play Services are far too important to overlook, despite great hardware.

It may not be a big deal for Huawei in China, where it doesn’t rely on Google services anyway, but for the Western world, I think most people will see it as a deal-breaker.

You can now call google assistant for answers in India

Yes, you can call google assistant for answers through a toll-free number that just now works for Vodafone and Idea users only. At a google for India event, Google launched this feature for feature phone users. Users can dial 000 800 9191 000 through their Vodafone or Idea SIM and can ask questions and get a reply in English or Hindi.

The conversation experience on the phone call is similar to the smartphone built google assistant. Manuel Bronstein, Vice President, Product Management at Google, told India Today Tech that for the Phone Line service, the back-end will be handled jointly by Google and Vodafone.

The infrastructure for calls and phone support obviously comes from Vodafone-Idea while Google takes care of the Assistant once the call placed by a user connects to the internet at the backend. "The conversations are real-time and feel incredibly natural. It's like talking to someone on the phone," said Bronstein.

This feature is the same as ASK-NYPL. You can call a public library in new york to get answers from librarians. This program is started in 1967 to answer questions to the public that are difficult to find.

Over the time period, the New York public library saved a few interesting questions that are asked by the people over the telephone.

You can still call New York Public library and ask a question at 917-ASK-NYPL

Is your android infected with Agent Smith? Here is how to check.

Agent Smith is a malware that effects smartphone, tablets, and other android based devices. According to the report by the checkpoint, this malware has affected about 25 million devices while users remain unaware of the malware.

Check Point believes that the ‘Agent Smith’ malware originated in China via an internet firm that helps Chinese Android app developers to localize and publish their apps in foreign markets. It’s spread through a third-party app store called 9Apps that is popular in Asian markets.

The malware gained its name because it mimics the famous Matrix character, as it hacks apps and forces them to show more ads and then siphons the ad revenue by taking credit for ads already shown

Agent Smith has mainly infected devices in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. However, around 303,000 devices have been infected in the US and further 137,000 devices in the UK. Some of the apps that ended up being infected include
  • WhatsApp
  • lenovo.anyshare.gps
  • mxtech.videoplayer.ad
  • jio.jioplay.tv
  • jio.media.jiobeats
  • jiochat.jiochatapp
  • jio.join
  • good.gamecollection
  • opera.mini.native
  • startv.hotstar
  • meitu.beautyplusme
  • domobile.applock
  • touchtype.swiftkey
  • flipkart.android
  • cn.xender
  • eterno
  • truecaller
Agent smith's Attack flow

Check Point also says that the malware’s operator seems to have attempted to expand into the Google Play Store. It managed to turn up in 11 apps on the Play Store, all of which included code related to a simpler or previous version of the Agent Smith malware. The report notes that the malware remained inactive or dormant, with Google removing all of the apps deemed ‘infected’ or ‘at risk’.

The core reason this app has spread is due to a vulnerability that was patched several years ago within Android but relied on developers updating their apps to add the protection. It’s clear that many have not done so according to these reports. It reiterates the importance of both app updates and Android security patches.

Does your phone still contain this malware?

Check Point says that it has informed Google about what it found on Agency Smith and that Google has cleaned the Play store to remove the apps that were infected with it. "So far, the primary victims are based in India through other Asian countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh have also been impacted. Check Point has worked closely with Google and at the time of publishing, no malicious apps remain on the Play Store," the company notes.

But it is possible that your Android phone may have it. If you are getting too many ads on your phone, particularly sleazy or dubious ads, scan your phone with a good anti-virus app. At the same time, always follow good security practices. These are:

-- Don't download apps from third-party app stores like 9Apps. it's not worth it, even if you are getting an APK of a paid app for free. If it's free, do understand someone somewhere is benefitting from it. Always download apps from the official Google Play store.

-- If you suspect your phone is infected with Agent Smith, delete data of popular apps like WhatsApp and Flipkart by going into settings and reinstall these apps. Or rather do a factory reset.

-- Update your apps regularly via Google Play

-- Ideally, avoid sleazy apps or gaming apps from unknown sources.

-- While installing an app, carefully look at the permission it is asking for. Ideally, a gaming app should not ask for camera permission or photo app should not ask for network permission. Don't install an app if it seems dubious.

Russian Spy Whale Saves Woman's iphone

When you travel by boat to watch a whale and accidentally you slipped your phone into the ocean. What are your chances of getting it back? Let me guess 0%, Right!!

But that's her lucky day!!

Ina Mansika was sailing in waters in search for the beluga whale. She brought her iPhone along, hoping to catch a video of the whale.

She laid down on the dock to appear at it to get a chance to touch it. But she forgot to close the jacket pocket and her iPhone fell in the ocean.

she taught that her iPhone is gone forever, till the whale dove back down and came back a couple of moments later with her iPhone in its mouth.

This incident happened on May 5th, 2019.

Apparently, the beluga whale has lately defected from Russia. The Whale was initially spotted by a neighborhood fisherman, who removed a tight harness, most likely utilized for securing the camera gear.

The whale was most likely not informed of Apple's repair policy, nor did it comprehend the telephone was bricked from water harm. To Maniska, that is beside the point. The sort gesture was extremely a great deal appreciated.
